DANCE THE TANK

June 4th, 1989, Tiananmen square, Beijing. The last scene of the protests that were sparked by the death of pro-market, pro-democracy and anti-corruption official, Hu Yaobang, whom protesters wannted to mourn. The movement lasted seven weeks from Hu's death on 15 April, 1989 until tanks cleared Tiananmen square on 4th June.
The violent suppression of the Tiananmen square protest, caused widespread international condemnatio of the PRC goverment. The number of deaths is not known and many different estimates exist. There were early reports of Chinese Red Cross sources giving a figure of 2,600 deaths, but the Chinese Red Cross has denied ever doing so. The official Chinese government figure is 241 dead, including soldiers, and 7,000 wounded. (source: Wikipedia) A special figure of the Tiananmen's events was a man, that standed alone in front of the tanks that invaded the square. A man that danced a Tango dance with a tank. The following song and video is a participation to the 20th anniversary of the massacre of protestors at Tiananmen square. Lyrics and music written and composed at June 1st 2009, by the KINETA FILES. The initiation to the 20 years remembrence and the online project based on the Tank man Tango, with the participation of people from different countries all over the globe , came from the forget2forget.net.

τελικά ποιος όρισε τη βία προνόμιο των λίγων στην περίπτωση που ο homo sacer αντιπροσωπεύει όλους; μήπως ο φόνος είναι η μεταφορική θυσία στο βωμό της πάντοτε επισφαλούς εξουσίας; και γιατί κάποιοι τρομοκράτες φυλακίζονται ενώ οι υπόλοιποι κυβερνούν τον κόσμο;

Οι φυτοφάγοι λιγότερο βίαιοι από τους κρεατοφάγους; Ακούγεται προφανές και γι΄αυτό ύποπτο όχι;

It was so beautiful to see the Tiananmen memorial happen, all the steadfast dancers, their attentive vigil.

This London TV coverage has beautiful footage of some of the 70-ish people who danced the memorial in Sydney :

Here it is in Singapore, at the Substation:
